DIY: Chevron Bulletin Board

DIY: Chevron Bulletin Board

Most of us have a bulletin board in our home or office space. These practical pieces are great for posting to-dos and important reminders, but that boring brown corkboard doesn’t compliment anyone’s décor. It’s easy to add a little interest to your bulletin board- I updated mine one evening after the kids were in bed with chevron stripes.

Here's how I did it:

First I painted a coat of BIN primer on the corkboard. Once dry, paint on a coat of one of your pattern colours (I used left over paint from my doors and trim in Benjamin Moore Cloud White). Two coats of paint gave me the coverage I wanted- you may choose more, or less.
Once dry, I used a free chevron pattern printable at http://www.fabnfree.com/2012/09/08/240-free-chevron-patterns-papers-templates-backgrounds/, and outlined the pattern using painters tape. TIP! I started at the top, as pitured below, DON'T do that! I did not think it out properly at the time, but because I started at the top, not the middle, my pattern doesn't cover the board as evenly as it could have. So start at the middle, work to the top. Then from the middle, work to the bottom.

This took a bit of paitence, but the pattern was a great help.
Once the pattern was taped out, I applied two coats of my second pattern colour, Benjamin Moore Gray Wisp (leftover from my kitchen walls).
I waited about 1/2 hour to remove the tape. To avoid the paint peeling, remove it before it dries completely.
 And voila! The finished product!
